Repeat offender remanded for robbing man of $7000

A man who is no stranger to the courts was on Friday remanded to prison on an armed robbery charge.

27-year-old Calvin Belgrave, a labourer, of Bent Street, Georgetown, appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Belgrave pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on June 1, 2021, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a dangerous weapon, he robbed Charles Gill of one black Motorola cell phone value $7000 and $7000 in cash.

The robbery accused was remanded to prison until July 16, 2021.

In 2018, Belgrave was remanded on a similar charge.

It was alleged that on November 2, 2018, at Brickdam and Cornhill Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, and armed with a knife, he robbed Dellon Anderson of one Samsung cell phone valued at $36, 000 and $2,000 cash.

He had also pleaded not guilty to the charge.

It was reported that on the day in question, Anderson was on Cornhill Street outside Demico House, when Belgrave and others approached him. According to reports, Belgrave pointed a knife at the man and then relieved him of his valuables.

It is unclear, at this time,  what was the outcome of this matter.
