“DJ Raw Gold” charged for wounding selector, assaulting woman at HJ studio

(L) Clyde Watson-(R) Marlon Williams

36-year-old Clyde Watson called “DJ Raw Gold” of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara,  who is accused of stabbing a man to his face with a beer bottle during a live radio programme on HJ 94.1 Boom FM, was on Monday hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The first charge against Watson alleged that on April 10, 2021, at Lance Gibbs Street,  Georgetown he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Marlon Williams also known as “Yannick”, a music selector. It was further alleged that on the same day at the same location, he unlawfully assaulted Melissa Duke.

Watson pleaded not guilty to both charges and was released on $55,000 bail. He was also placed on a bond to keep the peace until the hearing and determination of the trial.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Watson pushed Duke to the ground causing her to receive injuries about her body.  He then armed himself with a Guinness bottle and dealt Williams a lash to his face causing the bottle to break.

Thereafter, he took the broken bottle and dealt Williams several stabs. The injured man was then taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was treated and sent away.

The matter was reported and following an investigation, he was arrested and charged. Shortly after the incident, the management of HJ 94.1 Boom FM sent out a statement stating that a decision was made to suspend the radio programme and the two individuals from the airwaves.
