Police are investigating the murder of 31 year-old Ganga Persaud of Fairfield, Essequibo Coast. Investigations thus far, revealed that the man was killed, during an argument, while imbibing with a known associate.

According to police, sometime around 15:00hrs, yesterday, Sunday, Ganga was imbibing at his Fairfield Home, with another family member and a friend of his.

An argument subsequently ensued between Ganga and the suspect. During the argument, the suspect reportedly picked up a “rum bottle” and proceeded to hit Ganga in the head. It was reported that the relative, who was identified as Muneshwar Persaud, then reportedly pushed the suspect away.

Both the suspect and victim then exited the house. Muneshwar, said that when he eventually exited the house, he saw the suspect standing at the side of the house, saying that Ganga was dead.

Muneshwar told police that upon investigation, he observed the body some 10 feet away from the suspect, in a pool of blood bleeding from a wound to his left side under the arm.

Ganga was picked up by his relative and neighbours, and was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect fled the scene, but was arrested this morning, after his mother turned him in to police. Police investigations are ongoing.
