Woman who stabbed reputed husband to death remanded on manslaughter charge
A woman who is accused of fatally stabbing her Cuban partner after he tried to physically remove her from their home, has been charged with manslaughter.
44-year-old Miledidys Quezada Lezcano, a domestic worker, was not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that on May 19, 2021, at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, she unlawfully killed 40-year-old Lopez Cardenas Yoesmarita.
The woman, who is also a Cuban national, of Lot 203 Charlotte Street, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Tuesday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
She was remanded to prison until June 15, 2021.
Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, Yoesmarita was armed with a knife and was attempting to physically remove his partner from the premises. The court heard that a scuffle ensued during which the woman disarmed Yoesmarita and stabbed him to his lower back.
The injured man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His spouse was arrested and later charged.
