Woman killed as car knocks couple from motorcycle; while another runs her over
The Couple: Mr. and Mrs Rishi and Lalita Rambaran
Sixty Four Old Lalita Rambaran of 73 Village Corentyne Berbice was killed on the spot Tuesday afternoon after she was hit from motorcycle by a vehicle and ran over by another, severing one of her legs in the process.
The accident took place at the No. 73 Public Road Corentyne Berbice. At the time of the crash which also involved a vehicle driven by a Guyana Revenue Authority Enforcement officer.
BIG Smith News watch has been told that the vehicle which was being driven by the GRA officer knocked the couple off their motorcycle and a vehicle which was driving behind, ran over the woman.
Rambaran who has been slipping in and out of consciousness is still of the belief that his wife survived the accident. Rambaran, a mother of two along with her husband had moments before the crash left their home.
Police sources have indicated that the car driven by the GRA officer was proceeding at a fast rate of speed when the motorcycle turned into its path, resulting in the collision, the two were traveling in opposite directions.
We were told that the driver of the car attempted to avoid the collision but the left side of his vehicle came into contact with the motorcycle, causing the elderly couple to be flung onto the roadway.
Up to press time, Mr. Rambaran was being prepared for surgery for injuries he received during the accident. He is of the view that his wife survived the accident as relatives have not revealed the dreaded news to him.
The couple lived alone while their two children live abroad. With the current COVID-19 and the lockdown of the airports in other countries as well as Guyana, it is unclear if they will be able to pay the final respects to their mother.
