Vishnu Persaud, the “superior candidate” for CEO post – GECOM
The Guyana Elections Commission said that it has chosen the “superior candidate” of the two (2) persons
interviewed for the job of Chief Elections Officer.
Mr Vishnu Persaud was chosen for the appointment at Friday’s meeting. Persaud who performed the roles of Deputy Chief Elections Officer and PRO was chosen over Mr. Leslie Harrow, a Jamaican national. GECOM’s Chairman Justice Claudette Singh supported government nominated commissioners on this appointment.
GECOM in a statement said that Justice Claudette Singh in justifying the reasons for endorsing
the Persaud said that; having heard the Commissioners and having read the endorsement of the
former Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally that she she is of the view that Mr. Persaud “has acquired institutional knowledge having been employed with GECOM for seventeen (17) years”.
GECOM said too that GECOM’s Chairman Justice Singh posited that Mr. Persaud is knowledgeable not only with the understanding and management of the work of the CEO’s office and the operational functions of the Secretariat but also with the geography of Guyana’sten (10) Administrative Regions.
Persaud is expected to assume office in the new week, GECOM said, “once all contractual and procedural matters are finalized and he is officially appointed and takes the Oath of Office”.
