Two remanded for murder of retired priest
Two men who are accused of murdering 82-year-old retired priest George Chuck-A-Sang of Vlissengen Road, Georgetown were today charged and remanded to prison for the offence.
The men, Rawle McPherson, 45, of Victoria, East Coast Demerara, and Mohanie Mohabir, 43, of Corentyne Berbice, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge which stated that between December 21 and December 23, 2020, at the St. Sidwell’s Anglican Church, Vlissengen Road, Georgetown, they murdered George Chuck-A-Sang.
The men were remanded to prison until February 25, 2021.
According to reports, the now dead man used to live by himself in a two-story concrete structure. It was alleged by his daughter, Renata Chuck-A-Sang, that on December 18, last, at about 08:00hrs, she made contact with her father via his cellular phone and they spoke as normal.
However, on December 21, last, at about 15:00hrs, she called her father via Whatapp and his phone rang out. She then went to his home and was unable to contact him. As a result, she and others were able to open his office door and went up to the upper flat of the house. While there, the retired priest’s body was discovered on the floor clad in a white brief.
What appeared to be seven stab wounds were seen about his body while his forehead appeared to be swollen. His body was escorted to Georgetown Public hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The matter was reported and following an investigation, the two men were arrested and charged for the offense.
