Suspect in teen’s murder said she was pregnant for his older cousin
IN CUSTODY: Dequan Adams
Relatives of Melissa Soman are now expressing some signs of relief with the fact that justice seems sure for the murder of their loved one.
This comes after Melissa’s Boyfriend reportedly confessed to the police that he assaulted her and another relative with a paddle after she defied his orders and went to a party with the other relative earlier last week.
Dequan Adams who has been living with Melissa for the past four months confessed to beating her about her body in a boat as she was traveling up the Berbice River, forcing both her and the older cousin to jump overboard to escape the brutal attack.
Yesterday Dequan Adams reportedly confessed his crime to the police after telling them what enraged him and caused him to attack the two. He told detectives that the teen was pregnant and that he believes she was having an affair and was pregnant for his 48-year-old cousin whom she went to the party with.
It is suspected that after the jumped into the river, Soman reportedly drowned. When her body was fished from the river, her face was badly disfigured. A post-mortem report will determine if this disfiguration came from the blows she received of it was eaten by fishes.
The two lived at Gateroy, Upper Berbice River along with Dequan’s 48-year-old cousin whom Melissa went to the party with but which Dequan was not in approval of.
Ruth-Ann Soman, the eldest sister of the deceased teen told this publication that since her younger sister relocated from the family’s Lot 58 Stanleytown home, she has hardly been in contact with the family as her boyfriend was overly possessive and did not want her to have many friends or speak to anyone.
Relatives said that Melissa was planning to return home sometime in August to make preparations for her son’s third birthday celebration.
