Norton elected Chairman of APNU as Granger steps down; Harmon resigns as General Secretary

Former President David Granger has resigned as Chairman of the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) paving the way for the election of PNC leader Mr. Aubrey Norton to chair the Coalition.
The election took place at the APNU’s first Executive Committee meeting for the year, held on Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
Further, Opposition Leader Joseph Harmon has resigned as the Coalition’s General Secretary. He was however asked to continue in the role for a period of seven days to facilitate the smooth transition to a new General Secretary.
Present at the meeting were Mr. Granger, Harmon, MP and General Secretary of the APNU, new elected Leader of the PNCR Aubrey Norton, Jaipaul Sharma of the Equal Rights and Justice Party, Vincent Henry of the Guyana Action Party, Tabitha Sarabo-Halley of Guyana Nation Builders and Keith Scott of the National Front Alliance.
Members of the Executive thanked the outgoing Chair and General Secretary for their role in advancing the idea of the APNU to what it is today, the party said in a statement.
It was noted that their astute leadership saw the growth of the APNU and the acceptance of the populace to coalition politics which resulted in an increase in votes from 2011 to 2020.
