Woman previously charged for stabbing neighbour, remanded for stealing US$3,000

A woman who was charged last year for allegedly stabbing her neighbour with a pitchfork was on Friday charged for stealing US$3,070.

Denise Hilliman of Lamaha Park Squatting Area, Georgetown appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

She denied the charge which stated that on January 17, 2022, at Georgetown, she stole US$3,070 (GY$684,000) property of Maylin Ortiz Rodriguez.

The prosecutor told the court that Rodriguez was shopping and forgot her purse in a store. After realizing that her purse was missing, she made a report to the Police.

An investigation was launched whereby CCTV footage from the store was reviewed by the Police. Hilliman was caught on camera removing the woman’s purse. She, however, denied doing so when she was arrested.

A search was then conducted on her person and the money was found in her bag. Hilliman was remanded to prison until March 25.

Last July, Hilliman, was accused of stabbing her neighbour with a pitchfork, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.

It is alleged that on July 11, 2021, at Lamaha Park, Squatting Area, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, she inflicted grievous bodily harm to Otoley Whyte, following a gambling game between family members.

During the ordeal, Hilliman, who was several feet away, armed herself with a pitchfork and dealt Whyte a stab to her chest. The injured woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted as a patient.
