“Two Colour” murder trial begins next Monday; State to call 18 witnesses

DPP accused of victimization in jail cell video

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday presented the indictment of the State against Lennox Wayne for the offence of murder. The trial will commence next Monday, May 31, 2021, before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a 12-member jury at the High Court in Demerara.

Upon his arraignment, Wayne called “Two Colour” pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on July 10, 2014, in the county of Demerara, he murdered 19-year-old Lusignan, East Coast Demerara cosmetologist Ashmini Hariram.

The murder accused is being represented by Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes and associates. State Counsel Lisa Cave is presenting the case for the Prosecution. The prosecutor is expected to call 18 witnesses.

According to reports, on the day in question, Hariram and her cousin were walking along Lusignan Public Road when they saw a burgundy motorcar, PRR 8370 parked along the said road.

A few minutes after, Hariram was shot to the head. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. Wayne reportedly gave Police a caution statement admitting to the crime.
