Nurney, Kildonan get land lease; Limlair Village is next

Residents who were handed their titles on Thursday

Thirty residents from two communities along the Corentyne Coast, Berbice on Thursday received titles for land ownership. The residents reportedly made the various applications since 2000 according to the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission.

They were drawn from the communities of Nurney and Kildonan and received the titles at a simple ceremony at the Kildonan Multi-Purpose center on Thursday morning.

Commissioner of the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission Trevor Benn indicated that the beneficiaries are persons who would have applied during the previous land tenure regularization program in 2000 and were awaiting the issuance.

Several meetings and site visits were reportedly conducted by officials from the commission prior to today’s activity in an attempt to have the processing and information of the prospecting applicants vetoed.

“Once you are in receipt for the title of the lands we are expecting that you will put it to economic use for your benefit and’ Benn stated as he reminded that land ownership is very important.

One of the recipient after collecting his document expressed gratitude to the commission and promised to make full use of the land.

“So happy that the CEO which is Mr. Benn and all other was able to come and give us this lease, well as Mr. Collin has said that when we receive this lease we supposed to utilize the land and I am promising that we are going to do just that, we wouldn’t leave it undone” one recipient noted.

The Commission plans to carry out similar activities within other communities along the Corentyne Coast as they eye Limlair Village as the next stop.
