Linden contractor remanded for shooting his Policeman cousin in the head

Four days after he shot his Policeman cousin in the head, a 27-year-old Lot 1231 Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden building contractor has been remanded to prison on an attempted murder charge.

Fawazz McRae was not required to plead to the indictable charge when he appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Particulars of the charge against him alleged that on Sunday, March 12, he discharged a loaded firearm at Police Sergeant Jermain Semple, 32, with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm or to murder him. McRae is due for another court appearance later this month.

Semple of 106 Semple Street, Hope Town, West Coast Berbice (WCB) who is stationed at the Tactical Services Unit is presently nursing a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

As of Tuesday, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) reported that its member was in a critical state and on a life support machine at the Linden Hospital Complex.

This publication previously reported that on the day in question, Semple and his brother got into a fight while they were imbibing at Crown and Anchor Grill and Bar in the mining town.

McRae attempted to make peace by parting the brothers.

As a result, a fight broke out between Semple and McRae, and during that fight, McRae, a licensed firearm holder, whipped out his .32 pistol and discharged two rounds in the direction of Semple.

Semple was struck in the head and fell to the ground. He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he remains a patient.

When Police detectives visited the crime scene, they recovered two .32 spent shells. McRae was subsequently taken into custody and his firearm was seized and lodged at the Police station.
