GTT goes Sports, Digicel goes Health

When it comes to their services, the two main mobile providers in Guyana, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company and Digicel Guyana are never on the same page or wavelength.

On Tuesday the companies committed a total of GYD $210,000,000 (Two Hundred and Ten Million) in the areas of Sports and Health respectively.

The individuals’ commitment to the two separate agencies will see monetary support going to the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Health for a three-year period.

The Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company in a statement announced that it will be donating GYD $150,000,000 (One Hundred and Fifty Million) to the Cricket Carnival for three years, Digicel Guyana for it’s part donated GYD $60,000,000 (sixty Million) to the Ministry of Health to assist persons with disabilities.

GT&T said for the Cricket Carnival, it will be offering free sim cards to incoming passengers at the CJIA. Those cards will be preloaded with credit to facilitate immediate use.

Digicel Guyana will be supporting the Ministry of Health’s Special Needs Project. The company said the long-term vision is to see the creation of world-class development facilities for children with special needs across the regions of Guyana.

Training will be done with individuals and professionals within the Special Needs Community. The company signed an agreement with Permanent Secretary Mr. Malcom Watkins of the Ministry of Health which will see a financial commitment of GYD $60,000,000 over a three-year period.
