Fisherman found guilty of murder in fiery deaths of duo

 

 

A former Fyrish Village, Corentyne, Berbice fisherman Ravindranauth Mohanlall has been found guilty of two murder charges by the High Court in Berbice.

Sixty-three-year-old Ravindranauth Mohanlall had been on trial before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a jury for the 2011 murders of Beeram Motilall, 45, called ‘Boy’ of Chesney Village, Corentyne and Renard Fernandes, called ‘Renny’, 15,  of Rose Hall Town Reef, Corentyne.

The incident happened between September 6, 2011, and September 12, 2011, at sea in the vicinity of Bush Lot Village, Corentyne.

 

Mohanlal, who was represented by Attorney-at-Law Stacy Goodings, was further remanded until October 5, when he is scheduled to be sentenced.

 

The case was prosecuted by State Counsel Muntaz Ali.

 

Ravindranauth Mohanlall, threw gasoline on crew members Beeram Motilall and Renard Fernandes and set them alight after they left to go fishing. 

 

Their cause of death was given as Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome, resulting from the severe burns to their bodies.

 

Mohanlall had been on remand for the murders since 2011.
