Fatal Stabbing at Lusignan Prison

 

In a tragic turn of events at the Lusignan Prison this afternoon, an altercation between inmates resulted in the fatal stabbing of Anthony Prince by fellow prisoner Shamar Davis.

 

 

The incident occurred around 14:05hrs when tensions escalated as the two men exchanged banter about each other’s girlfriends.

Reports indicate that Prince sustained a severe injury to his neck from a piece of mop stick wielded by Davis.

 

Despite immediate medical attention from on-duty staff, Prince’s condition rapidly deteriorated, and he tragically succumbed to his injuries around 14:45hrs while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

 

Law enforcement authorities were promptly notified of the incident, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

As a precautionary measure, Shamar Davis has been isolated in a separate cell pending the outcome of the investigation.

 

Efforts to address the aftermath of the incident are already in motion, with the Officer-in-Charge and the Welfare Officer engaging with other inmates to discuss the consequences of poor decision-making within the prison environment.

 

In response to the incident, Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot, extended his condolences to the family of Anthony Prince and assured them of the institution’s support during this difficult time.

 

23-Y-O Prince of Foulis East Coast Demerara was remanded  on three counts of armed robbery, two counts of burglary, and larceny.

 

While Davis, also 23-Y-O of Sophia, Greater Georgetown has been remanded for robbery.
