Lousia Row fire displaces more than a dozen persons
A late afternoon fire at an apartment building on Louisa Row, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown has displaced more than a dozen people including children. The fire started just after 16:08hrs.
The building is sectioned off into four apartments, the fire reportedly started in the front bottom flat apartment where two children, a 12 and 2-year-old were home alone at the time, the 12-year-old was said to be sleeping at the time of the fire and was awaken by his 2-year-old brother.
Some persons from the area including a gentleman from the upper apartment who was also displaced by the fire indicated that the apartment where the fire was started is usually clustered with a lot of young smoking marijuana.
Stacy refuted those claims and stated that her children do not come. She said she was at work when she received a call about the fire.
Nigel Reynolds told the press on Friday that he made reports to the owner of the building and the Child Care and Protection Agency about the smoking in the lower flat of the building.
The Guyana Fire Service was praised for its swift response to the fire call which contained the blasé to one building while preventing complete destruction and the possibility of the fire spreading to nearby buildings.
A fire Hydrant in the recently renovated area was used to supply water for the firefighting exercise.
