Joint venture company invests US$35M to construct Marine and Off-Shore Training Institute
According to a statement from the company – Atlantic- Alexarya Maritime Development Guyana Inc. (AAMDG)–construction of the building is currently ongoing at Lot 43 A Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
AAMDG is a joint venture company formed by Atlantic Ventures Inc. (AVI), a 100% Guyanese owned company with extensive experience in the mining and marine industry and Alexarya Corporation International, a leading Investment and Development corporation based in India. The companies are seeking to invest in the development of Guyana’s growing Maritime Industry.
A maritime Institute offers recognized courses in Pre-Sea Training, Officers Training and the Post- Sea Training to improve the skills of high calibre seafarers to meet the highest standard of professionalism required in the ever changing and demanding shipping industry. Other basic safety training programmes will also be offered.
According to the statement, Pro. (Capt) Suniel Kumar of the Indian company has successfully established similar Marine Academies in and around Singapore, Sri Lanka, Duabi and India.
The Institute will offer a residential facility within the premises and offers training for persons from sixteen to thirty- seven years old in Guyana and the Caribbean. Upon completion, graduates will be awarded with accredited certificates that will prepare them for careers both on and off shore as Seamen, Chief Officers, Captains, merchant marines, or any other jobs in the marine industry locally and internationally.
The administrative team, under the direct management of AVI’s Vice President Ms. Nicola Whittaker is working extensively on setting up the Secretariat and Admissions office by the end of April, 2021.
Plans are also in place for the construction of a Ship Yard and Dry dock to be used for ship building, ship repairs and complete ship management.
The tourism sector will also benefit from this large-scale investment through the development of river cruise and Floating Hotels in Guyana’s waters, along with worldwide vessel registrations being done through the company.
The team from AAMDG, within the past week, has met with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Go- Invest Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Ministers of Public Infrastructure Juan Edghill and Indar Deodat and Mr. Stephen Thomas, the Director General of the Maritime Administration Department, all of whom have committed to working together with the Joint Venture company towards the development of this project.
