‘Devil’ found guilty of raping special needs girl at knifepoint
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has issued a wanted bulletin for a 36-year-old man, who sometime last week absconded his trial but was on Tuesday found guilty in absentia of child rape.
Rondell Chappel, 36, called ‘Devil’ of Section “A” Sophia, Greater Georgetown had been indicted for the offence of engaging in sexual penetration with a child under the age of 16 before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Sexual Offences Court in Demerara.
Following deliberations on Tuesday, a mixed 12-member jury found Chappel unanimously guilty of the offence. He raped a 15-year-old girl between September 5 and 6, 2020.
The young girl is a special needs child.
Between the dates mentioned in the charge, she was at home alone, when Chappel broke into the dwelling through a window and raped her at knifepoint.
Sentencing the child rapist has been fixed for December 16.
State Counsel Cicelia Corbin, State Counsel Caressa Henry and State Counsel Marisa Edwards prosecuted the matter.
Anyone who has information on the whereabouts of Chappel is asked to contact the Police on telephone numbers: 225-6940, 225-8196, 226-7476, 225-2317, 227-1149, or the nearest Police station.
