Police have detained two suspects for the murder of 86-year-old Agnes Dillon, slain in her Lot 32 Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara apartment on Thursday, June 30.
Officials declined to say whether they are from the same community.
Mrs. Dillon’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on her bed, with suspected stab wounds to her left and right upper chest.
She also appeared to have been chopped on her right hand and the right side of her face.
The pensioner lived alone in the lower flat of the two-storey property, while the landlady resides in the upper flat.
Mrs. Dillon was reportedly last seen washing clothes at around 17.00 hrs on Wednesday, June 29.
The landlady told officers that she became concerned when she did not see Mrs. Dillon the following day. When calls to the pensioner’s phone also went unanswered, she contacted a neighbour who pried a window open and saw Mrs. Dillon’s body on her bed.
