Five arrested after $12.9M in Cocaine, Ecstasy discovered in Georgetown house

Five persons including a Surinamese national were on Tuesday arrested after a quantity of cocaine and ecstasy pills were discovered in a house at Shantiniketan Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown.

According to a statement from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), officers acting on information received, conducted an operation at the building which led to the discovery of ten (10) parcels of suspected cocaine and a quantity of multi-coloured pills suspected to be ecstasy.

As a result, 62-year-old Lena Narine aka ‘Aunty Lena’, 60-year-old James Herbert aka Uncle James, 71-year-old Kay Jennifer Butcher, 27-year-old Jamal Narine aka ‘Tunks’, and a 47-year-old Surinamese man Gregory Faria, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters.

The suspected cocaine weighed 11.4kgs with a street value of approximately GY$12.5M. The suspected ecstasy weighed 266 grams with a street value of approximately GY$400,000.

Investigations are ongoing.
