A 46-year-old construction worker, who was convicted last month of raping a 13-year-old girl, was on Friday sentenced to 17 years in prison by Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Clincy David was found unanimously guilty on two counts, namely attempting to rape the girl on April 8, 2020, and sexually penetrating her on July 13, 2020.
The jury’s verdict on both counts was unanimous. In the end, David was sentenced to 15 years and 17 years imprisonment on the first and second counts respectively.
The sentences will run concurrently.
David was represented by Attorney-at-Law Teriq Mohammed while State Counsel Caressa Henry and Paneeta Persaud appeared on behalf of the prosecution.
His trial was heard in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court in Georgetown. David had always maintained that he was innocent of the charges levelled against him.
