Six arrested as police dog sniffs out marijuana and ammo stash

Borrego, a dog attached to the Guyana Police Force narcotics unit on Tuesday morning assisted his human squaddies in the unearthing a quantity of narcotics and ammunition during an intelligence led raid in Pike Street Sophia.

At about 03:00hrs on Tuesday, the police from Police Regional Division 4A Headquarters, Brickdam,  swooped down at lot 15 Pike Street, North Sophia.

The lawmen cordoned off the house, at that point, a bulky plastic bag was tossed out a window of the house, forcing the police and their dog to search among the bushes to see what was contained in the bag.

Once discovered, it was found that the bag contained suspected marijuana after a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems made up its contents.

In a search of the house, six persons were arrested, they are said to all be occupants of the house and have been identified as;

30 year old labourer Elon Rose, 22 year old housewife Triecia Benjamin (Elon’s reputed wife), 53 year old labourer Roger Alexander, 28 year old housewife Jullana Moore (Roger’s reputed wife), 28 year old labourer Romel Baird and Clayton Baird.

The individuals were shown the narcotics but everyone denied ownership or responsible of the items.

A scale was also found during the search by the police in addition to a quantity of ammunition.

According to law enforcement, outside in the yard, a white plastic bucket small rice bad inside containing 190 live .45 ammunition were also discovered.

The cannabis is said to have amounted to 55 grams while another set that was discovered amounted to 13.166 kilograms.

All six of the individuals were placed into custody after being questioned throughly by the police and kept denying any knowledge of the illegal items discovered by law enforcement.
