Junior police ranks on East Coast Demerara last night caused one of their seniors to be arrested after he first drove away from a roadblock along the East Coast Demerara but was cornered at another one where a large quantity of marijuana and ammunition for a 9mm pistol were found in the car he was driving.
At approximately 21:15 hours, acting on information received ranks erected a road block at the Helena #2 Public Road, East Coast Demerara where a silver Allion bearing license number PTT 3891 was directd to stop.
BIG Smith News Watch was told that the driver identified himself as Deputy Superintendent Brown. However, while speaking with DSP Brown a party of policemen from Region 5 arrived and indicated that the said vehicle drove away from them at that it is suspected that the vehicle is transporting cannabis.
Upon hearing same, DSP Brown drove away from the second road block hitting down the road block materials and proceeded north along the Lima Dam Jonestown, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, chase was given behind him and he was caught at Lima Dam, Mahaica where a search of his vehicle was carried out.
In the presence of the police officer, three black bags containing several bulky, transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis were found. Same was brought to the attention of DSP Brown, but he remained quiet.
A search was further conducted in the drive side of the said motor car and what appears to be two 9mm Ammunition was found on the floor of the car. Same was brought to the attention of DSP Brown attention and he again remained silent.
He was then escorted to the Cove and John Police Station where the contents in the said black bags were counted and amounted to 10 bulky parcels.
Same was weighed in DSP Brown’s presence and amounted to 9,466 grams, same was sealed and lodged in his presence and the ammunition were sealed and lodged. Statements submitted, inquiries in progress.
