Camp Street Prison break thwarted; hacksaw blades, cut steel bars uncovered

The Guyana Prison and Fire Services Police and Defense Forces are on high alert after an observation at the Camp Street Jail revealed what could have been a plan being hatch to launch a prison break.
Director of Prisons acting, Senior Superintendent Gladwin Samuels in a statement noted that the observation was made while himself and other officers were interacting with inmates at the facility.
In the statement the DOP noted “Hacksaw blades were discovered during the search that are said to be the items used to cut the bars”
It was after observing that the bars from one of the cell were cut and covered with cloth, the joint serves was immediately contacted and an operation immediately conducted which reveal that another cell also had bars which were cut and stored.
Today when contacted for a comment, Public Security Minister Khemraj Ramjattan said that this publication should speak with the Director of Prison as he, Ramjattan was busy.
Ramjattan is expected to take the stage today during the APNU+AFC election Campaign launch as he eyes the position of Prime Minister should the Coalition return to power.
