Businessman on trial over murder of teen boy at Puruni Landing
Murder accused-Junior France; Dead-Dane Jerrick
The trial of Junior France, the 43-year-old licensed firearm holder who allegedly shot and killed a 17-year-old miner back in 2020 at Puruni Landing, Mazaruni River, commenced this morning before Suddie High Court Judge Jo Ann Barlow.
France is accused of murdering Dane Jerrick, a miner formerly of Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, on May 17, 2020. The murder accused who is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes, has pleaded not guilty.
State Counsel Tiffini Lyken is appearing on behalf of the prosecution.
It was previously reported that the shooting occurred at around 3:30h. It was reported that Jerrick was “lingering” in front of the businessman’s shop. France reportedly pursued the teen and discharged several rounds at him.
The teen was struck in the abdomen. He was picked up by Police ranks and escorted to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A post mortem examination revealed that Jerrick died as a result of a gunshot injury.
