Police seems closer to cracking School of nations investigation after ‘critical’ evidence provided
Fourteen weeks after Director for School of the Nations Dr. Brian O’Toole was shot as he attempted to enter his home, the Guyana Police Force which has not managed to arrest and charge anyone for the crime, has come forward to say they are pleased with the work done so far in the investigations.
Their sentiments were also echoed by Dr. O’Toole who is still waiting on the police force to bring his attacker to justice as well as the person who he claimed has been issuing threats to his school earlier in the year which saw the school going deep into its pocket to improve the physical infrastructure at the school which speaks directly to security.
At a press conference called by the force on Tuesday and which we later learn that Dr. Brian O’ Toole suggested, the force noted that on Monday they were able to obtain a vital piece of evidence that should help them tremendously in the investigations surrounding the entire matter inclusive of the attack on the school’s director and the threats the school had receive. The piece of evidence is said to be a recording which the police are of the view will be critical to solving of the crime.
Dr. O’Toole told the media at the press conference that he believe that it was safe to equate, that the persons who attacked him and the person who issued the threats to the school are linked.
He explained that on the night of the shoot, he managed to get a visual of the person who shot him as that person stood approximately 5-6 feet away from him.
O’ Toole explained that based on the description he provided the police with, they subsequently conducted some amount of investigations and it was only on Monday that he was informed that the persons who supposedly saw, was not in the country at the time of the attack and that the individual left the country on December 15, 2018.
The police could not say definitively if the young man although recording as leaving the country, might have re-entered through an unofficial port of entry.
Asked repeatedly if the person who Dr. O’Toole said he saw and if the person who the threats to the school are being blamed on, are linked or associated to any public figure, the school director nor the commission will confirm that bit.
There have been rumors that the persons who shot the school head might have been the son a prominent public figure here I Guyana. It was also reported in some section of the press and social media that O’Toole also communicated those sentiments to law enforcement official outside of Guyana as he was afraid to give the information to local law enforcement.
Brian O’Toole however came out to deny those claims and said that he never named an individual or associated any one to any public figure in this country.
The School director however told the media that the name of the person who has been threatening the school via online media posts is well known by hundreds of persons and that the name of the individual was mentioned numerous times in the past.
But again he refused to cooperate a name and instead called on the media to “put pressure on the United States Embassy” so that they can either release the name or the individual to local media personnel of law enforcement respectively.
At the press conference which was called by the police force on Tuesday, many questions were still not answered and there remains a number of issues which clearly needed clarifications surrounding the entire ordeal inclusive of the shoot of the O’Toole and the threats to his school, but the press conference failed to provide those clarifications.
