BERBICIAN ELECTROCUTED WHILE CLEARING GPL POLE ON EAST COAST DEMERARA
At Approximately 12:25 hrs on Thursday in Clonbrook, East Coast Demerara, a 21 year old worker of a Guyana Power and Light sub-contractor was killed after being electrocuted while doing line clearing.
Dead is Andrea Fullerton of New Amsterdam, Berbice. He was at the Time employed with Ramoutar and Sons Contracting Services, which is contracted by the Guyana Power and Light Inc.
According to what was communicated to the BIG Smith Crime Watch, the young man went up on a utility pole in the area where he was engaged in ‘wire-clearing’.
Shortly after mounting the pole, his co-worker heard him scream and upon looking in his direction, saw him leaning backward on the utility pole while his safety belt was still wrapped around his waist and connected to the pole.
He was immediately taken down and rushed to the CC Nicholson Health Center at Cove and John where he was examine by a doctor pronounced dead.
Police sources indicated that his body had visible signs of burns and according to what we were told, he might have come into contact with an exposed wire while executing his duties.
Contacted, this afternoon, representatives of the company said that the young man was a hard and dedicated worker who was also very close to the directors of the company.
The company assured that he was also fully decked out in all aspects of his safety gear at the time of the unfortunate incident, as reported by his supervisor on the ground.
The police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
