18-Y-O Dies in Corentyne Crash
– Husband Hospitalized in Critical Condition
Police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred around 02:10 hrs today on the Kiltearn Public Road in Corentyne, Berbice.
The incident resulted in the death of 18-year-old Medical Technologist Bibi Aleah Ali and left her husband, Niraz Sukdeo, critically injured.
According to police reports, the crash involved a motorcar (# PAF 6330) driven by 24-year-old Niraz Sukdeo, also a Medical Technologist from Lancaster Village. His wife, Bibi Aleah Ali, who was an occupant in the vehicle, tragically lost her life in the accident.
Initial investigations revealed that the car was traveling north along the western drive lane of the road, allegedly at a high speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a crane parked on the parapet along the road. The car ended up in a canal on the eastern side.
Due to the impact, Bibi Aleah Ali was ejected from the vehicle into the canal. Both she and her husband sustained injuries and were promptly assisted by public-spirited citizens.
They were taken to Anamayah Memorial Hospital and Skeldon Public Hospital, respectively. Unfortunately, Bibi Aleah Ali was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty, while her husband was admitted to Anamayah Hospital with multiple injuries and remains in critical condition.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
